Coldplay was in Mumbai last weekend to perform in front of 80,000 people at the first ever Global Citizen festival held in Asia. The official announcement of a Coldplay show in India had caused a frenzy on social media back in September. And rightfully so, based on recent history. Hardcore fans in Mumbai and Delhi found themselves somewhere between shock and major FOMO with two incidents taking place in 2015, under the radar. One: A secret trip to Mumbai to film a music video. And then the biggie that almost broke the internet (okay, not really, but almost almost): an impromptu intimate gig at Summer House Cafe in Delhi that takes place after Chris Martin says to musician/composer Vishal Dadlani at dinner, "Let's go play somewhere." If you hadn't seen the selfie photos of All India Bakchod (aka AIB) with the Coldplay frontman, you must have been vacationing outside the country without a phone and laptop that week. So why was Chris Martin in Delhi last year? As musical curator for Global Citizen, Chris was travelling through India that week with the team. Global Citizen is a social action platform working to end extreme poverty by 2030.
